She did her schooling in Kendriya Vidyalayas and followed it by graduating from Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi.
Right from the time of her youth, she was fond of acting and was even the president of her college drama club. Even at that point, her ability to captivate audiences was very much ashore and her acting skills seemed innate.
Pursuing Her Dreams…
Though she had a passion for acting, her dream was to become a software engineer and she did all she could to realize this dream. They say failure is a stepping stone to success and the statement is legitimate with regard to Sakshi. It was only when she flunked her administrative services and mass communications test that she did pondered on the possibility of becoming an actress.
Before she made her mark in the acting industry, she was pursuing her dream towards becoming a software engineer and before it was cut short, she worked as a sales trainee in the Taj Hotel in Delhi.
Her stint with the hotel was followed by working cloth and accessory story named Khazana. She was once quoted as saying that her remuneration for the job was just 900 rupees and the first thing she bought from her first salary was a yellow saree. Apart from pampering herself, she bought small gifts for her father and brother.
Her Accidental Break
While she was studying for her exams, knowing of her talent as an actress, one of her friends literally pushed her to audition for Albela Sur Mela – a Doordharshan daily show. Unconventionally, the show had a routine of having two hosts and when one host failed to show up just after a couple of episodes, the door was flung open for Sakshi to walk in, and boy did she take her chance.
She eventually did fail her entrance exam but her destiny as an actress was already on the cards.
Two years after she landed the position of an anchor for Albela Sur Mela, Sakshi was given the opportunity of playing the role of Parvati Agarwal in the soap opera serial Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii.
She immediately accepted and for the next eight years of playing Parvati she rose to become one of the most sought after India soap opera actresses.
Her role of playing Parvati, the daughter-in-law of the Aggarwal joint family, strung a chord with the audience. Her role as the ideal daughter-in-law related more to homemakers in the country, who related their lives with her character, thus making it entertainment on a more personal level.
Her Next Big Step
In 2011, she starred in the serial Bade Achhe Lagte Hain as the main female character Priya Ram Kapoor. The serial was produced by Balaji Telefilms and once again Sakshi was amongst the awards for best actress each year till the show was halted in 2014.
The story revolved around Priya Ram Kapoor (Sakshi) and Ram Kapoor (As himself) who arranged their marriage. After years of dislike towards each other and spite, the couple eventually starts to fall in love with each other. The serial received numerous awards for its production, acting and plot.
Apart from these two roles that brought into the limelight and enormous success, Sakshi starred in several other roles such as Kutumb, Devi, Balika Vadhu, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Ek Thhi Naayika and so on.
She even featured on several reality shows such as Kaun Banega Crorepati, Crime Patrol – Season 2 and Coffee house.
Gossip Surrounding Sakshi
Naturally being single and the heartthrob of thousands of men, Sakshi has time and time again been rumored to have had link-ups with her co-stars and other celebrities.
The latest rumor that was doing the rounds was that she secretly married a business tycoon.
Immediately, she rubbished the rumors by saying, “I am very much single. I haven’t found anyone I want to marry. Normally people find love. But in my case I feel love has to find me. I feel your birth, marriage and decided are pre-ordained. I totally believe in the institution of marriage. In my family I’ve seen many successful marriages. I’m open to an arranged marriage. I am ready for marriage. But is marriage ready for me?”
That kind of clears the air with regard to her relationship status, giving tons of men a gust of hope, or realistically, a wish against hope.
Her Stint In Bollywood
Ever since she made her debut as an anchor on Doordharshan, she always wished to be part of a Bollywood flick and her dream did come true in 2012, but sadly only partially.
She bagged a role opposite Bollywood star Sunny Deol in the movie Mohalla Assi after actress Amisha Patel refused to act in it.
She played the role of Sunny Deol’s wife. Though the parts were shot, the movie crashed even before it was released in the Cinemas, flushing Sakshi’s chances of succeeding in Bollywood down the drain.
Famous Yet Simple
Sakshi has often played roles of a caring daughter-in-law and homemaker and in real life, she isn’t too far from that projection. Realizing the fact that she comes from a simple family, Sakshi has strived to remain simple despite the fame she garnered from her soap operas.
According to sources, Sakshi loves to cook for her family and close friends and was quoted as saying that she gets a high every time someone appreciates her cooking.
Unlike most celebrities or even people who are better off and cannot go through the day without assistance or help around the house, Sakshi apparently has never had the need for a maid. She makes time to clean around the house and cook for her relatives.
The Awards She Received…
In the 15-year career from being an anchor to a soap opera actress, Sakshi has garnered numerous best actress awards such as two Indian Telly Awards, one Kalakar Award and one Indian Television Academy Award for her role as Parvati Aggarwal in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii.
In addition, for her role as Priya Kapoor in Bade Achhe Lagte Hai she won another Indian Television Academy Award, one 11th Indian Telly Awards, a Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award, a People’s Choice Award India and a Star Guild Awards.
To put the cherry on the cake, a survey conducted by Ormax Media revealed that Sakshi was in the list for the top 5 most trustworthy celebrities in India alongside stars like Katrina Kaif and Madhuri Dixit.
