Shweta Tiwari is a well-known face on India’s small screen and the star of reality shows. The win on reality television show Big Boss gave a fillip to her career and boosted her celebrity status. Tiwari went to the St. Isabel School, Mumbai and completed her graduation from Burhanis College in Mazgaon, Mumbai. Tiwari has also acted on stage but she became known for the television show Kasautii Zindagi Ki.

Shweta is passionate about dancing and various kinds of boots. The commerce graduate also likes to read and watch movies and can be found reading on the sets. She is a versatile person and has worked with different genres apart from acting, like hosting and judging telly shows and contesting in dance shows. She is quite reserved and doesn’t socialize much. In Shweta’s opinion the Jhalak Dikhla Jaa was the hardest of all reality shows that she’s done. The pretty woman says she waits for the right roles and doesn’t accept work in haste even if she has to leave an offer.
She also stood up against domestic violence and moved on with her life to get married again and took control of her life. With all the hurdles she has faced in her life, she has come out to be a stronger person who is dedicated to her work and who can overcome odds. Her First Break
Indian television and film actor Shweta Tiwari began her career’s journey with the soap opera Kaleerein in 1999. After this, she acted in the successful serial Aane Wala Pal in 2001 which was aired on Doordarshan’s Metro channel. Through this serial she caught the attention of producer Ekta Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms who offered her a role in the soaps Karam and Kaahin Kissi Roz.
Tiwari got recognition with the daily serial Kasauti Zindagi Kay which was produced by Ekta Kapoor and aired on Star Plus Channel. The actor played the lead role of Prerna in the serial, which was aired for eight years and became the third longest running soap in India.
Tiwari has worked in over 19 programmes on television, which includes reality TV shows Big Boss, Jhalak Dikhla Ja 6, Nach Baliye, Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao, soaps Parvarish- Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi, Kaahin Kissi Roz, Kya Hadsa Kya Haqeeqat. She is presently portraying the character of Bindiya in the soap Begusarai on & Pictures channel. Tiwari’s first negative role was in the serial Baal Veer on SAB TV in which she played Mahabhasma Pari. The actor was regarded as the favourite daughter-in-law of Indian television after the success of Kasauti Zindagi Ki soap.
The graceful lady has also acted in nine feature films out of which six were Hindi movies and one each was in Punjabi, Marathi and Urdu languages. She got a break in Bollywood with the movie Madhoshi and the last movie she seen in was Saltanat. The actress also features in a Save the Girl Child commercial and has also promoted a pesticide manufacturing company in Punjab. Tiwari has also judged reality dance programmes – Aajaa Mahi Vay and the Bhojpuri show Dance Sangram.
Marriage & The Much Talked About Divorce
Tiwari tied the knot with actor and producer, Raja Chaudhury in 1998 when she was just 18-years-old. She has a daughter, Palak with him who was born in 2000. But after nine years of marriage the couple separated in 2007 and later divorced in 2012. Shweta Tiwari accused Chaudhury, who has participated in the Big Boss show, of domestic violence. Chaudhury and Tiwari together participated in the reality show Nach Baliye 2 on Star Plus in 2006.
The TV actor was ousted from Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6 in 2013 after she could not garner enough votes and lost to actress Aarti Chabaria in the face-off.
Her Regrets…
Tiwari feels sorry that she neglected her daughter Palak during the initial years of her growing up. She thinks that she should have spent more time with her. Tiwari tried to achieve financial security, hence, she was always occupied with work and that left her very little time for her daughter. So, Palak accompanied Tiwari to the sets and to outstation shoots so as to extract some time from her hectic schedules.
Tiwari says that her daughter understands her compulsions and has got accustomed to it but she has decided to give her teen-aged daughter more time now. Palak though encourages her mother to focus on her work; she is not at all interested in soap operas. About parenting, Tiwari says that she is a strict mother and would want to be with her daughter most of the time as teens need more attention.
Her Pillars In Life
Tiwari is profusely thankful to her producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor for helping her out through the worst times of her life. Tiwari faced hard times when she broke up with ex-husband Raja Chaudhury and also suffered domestic violence at the hands of her ex-husband.
Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor stood firmly by Tiwari’s side when she was distressed and put up with all the inconvenience that was caused during the shooting because of her. The producer never made Tiwari feel that she was causing problems for her and always stood by her side. Timings were relaxed to suit Tiwari and two people Sandeep Singh Siddhu and Saaketh kept an eye on her round the clock. The women watched Tiwari’s activities and helped her to cope up with her life.
Tiwari’s husband made her life so miserable that Ekta Kapoor opened the shutters for Tiwari to escape when her husband created ruckus on the sets of Kasauti Zindagi Ki and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. The difficulties did not end there as Raja Chaudhury did not spare her parents also and caused trouble outside their house. The actress also had the backing of her mother and brothers to deal with rough times in life.
New Beginnings
Shweta Tiwari got married to TV actor Abhinav Kohli on 13 July 2013 in Mumbai and made a fresh start in life, leaving the past behind her. The actress quit the serial Parvarish- Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi in 2013 to fulfil her marriage plans. The couple first met on the sets of TV series Jaane Kya Baat Hui and fell for each other. Since then, Shweta feels life has turned a new leaf and she is leading a stress-free life.
Shweta opened her acting school the Shweta Tiwari’s Creative School of Acting in Mumbai, Maharashtra where she teaches acting. The actor plans to take a break from acting and has expanded her acting school to the cities of Lucknow, Chandigarh and Delhi. Moreover, Tiwari runs two production houses, namely, Palak Punya Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and Mildly Classic.
Back To Limelight With Bigg Boss
Tiwari won the 4th season of the reality television show Big Boss in 2011 and took home the prize money of rupees one-crore by beating The Great Khali. The votes by viewers decided the winner and they made Tiwari the first woman to win the reality show. The actor’s dignified behavior in the Big Boss house during the 14-weeks of the show also made her the most preferred candidate. It also shows that Tiwari is a courageous and determined person. Tiwari is of the opinion that the tasks in Big Boss season 7 were too hard and she’s glad that she did not participate in it.
Tiwari has also won many Star Parivar Awards and the Indian Television Academy award for the best actress in 2004 for Kasauti Zindagi Kay.
Controversies That Shocked Her Fans
Shweta Tiwari was in the news for the wrong reasons when she caused disturbances on the sets of Kasauti Zindagi Kay soap opera due to her temperament. She openly admitted that she disliked her co-actor Cezanne Khan and that she found it tough to work with him. Many thought that the actor was rude as she kept to herself while shooting and had limited social interaction with colleagues. There have also been rumours of her dating Cezanne Khan and her tussle with Ronit Roy and Urvashi.
Tiwari created a sensation after she was shown taking a bath in a bikini in the reality television show ‘Is Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao’ on Sony Entertainment Television in 2009. When it comes to dressing up, the lady can carry herself in any dress gracefully because of her fit body. Even after being a mother she has maintained her body and looks gorgeous in any outfit.
She received flak for her altercations with Dolly Bindra her co-inmate in Big Boss 4, which raised the TRPs of the show as the viewership increased. Many called the feuds as the World War III between Shweta Tiwari and Dolly Bindra.
